Spike Lee (b. March 20 1957 - ) is an acclaimed and controversial black filmmaker based out of New York Ciy, NY. As a film student at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, his thesis film was entitled Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads which won a Student Academy Award in 1983 from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. The majority of the soundtracks for his films are highly respected for they feature various musical genres especially jazz.
