Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori (Marianella, near Naples, 27 September 1696 – Pagani, 1 August 1787) Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori was an Italian Catholic bishop, theologian, moral philosopher, poet, and composer, one of the most influential religious figures of the eighteenth century. Born into a noble Neapolitan family, he was a child prodigy who earned doctorates in civil and canon law by the age of sixteen and initially pursued a successful legal career.
