Hovhan Mandakouni

Hovhannes I Mandakouni (Armenian: Հովհաննես Ա Մանդակունի ; died 490) was a Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church from 478 to 490. "Energetic prelate, great preacher", Hovhannès succeeded the catholicos Giout d'Arahez on the latter's death in 478. The contemporary Armenian historian Ghazar Parpetsi describes him as "learned, eloquent, austere, of an ardent zeal against Mazdaism ".
