About Numan Ağa

Numan Ağa (c.1750-1834) was an eighteenth-century Turkish tanbur player and composer. He is thought to have been born in Istanbul; the date is not known for certain. He was an important tanbur player and composer during the reigns of Selim III and Mahmud II, writing instrumental and vocal works. Over seventy of his pieces have survived. He died in Istanbul.
