Background emaé was born in Aberdeen, Scotland where she lived until her early teens with her family. She grew up in a house that belonged to a small church that her dad pastored, while her mum worked as a nurse. Her dad, having a very difficult upbringing himself, valued education and prepared her to sit (and pass) competitive exams for a full scholarship to a leading private school. Eventually her parents decided to move out of Scotland and the years following saw emaé move with them to England
