The Athenians

There are at least three bands called The Athenians. 1. a group from Greece that formed in 1977 2. a 1960s beat band from Edinburgh, United Kingdom 3. a band that performed with Billy Bragg in 1991 1. The Athenians are a Greek group formed in 1977 by Manolis Charokopos (bouzouki, baglama, guitar), Antonis Gialeles (bass, guitar, piano, vocals) and Kostas Smirnios (bouzouki, baglama, guitar, backing vocals). Their musical repertoire encompasses contemporary songs and Greek popular folk music enriched by modern elements.
