Tich Turner's Escalator

Tich Turner had started life in the music industry as vocalist with 1970s prog rock band, Stallion. Based in Hastings on the south coast of the United Kingdom, Turner then teamed up with fellow Stallion members Steve Demetri (drums) and Phill Gill (bass) when the band split up and secured a deal with the Cheapskate record label as Tich Turner's Escalator. Their first single (in 1980) was a cover version of 'Diana' by Paul Anka; the flip side ('Are You Wiv') bringing them to the attention of ska fans.
