Once upon a time man built a freeway. It was a breakthrough of significant proportions, an artery that would eventually link the immense flame-billowing steelworks of Sheffield with the gleaming pavements of London town. Its blinking ambers and streaks of bright red and white lights inspired two wide-eyed boys to depart their homeland, riddled with pharmaceutical slag-heaps and vast chimney stacks spewing chunky nogs of coal into the atmosphere above their heads
