Toñín Romero
About Toñín Romero
Presenter of several radio shows during the 50s and 60s, Toñín Romero is a central figure in plena history, who embodied better than anyone the exchanges between this genre and jíbara music. Although he didn’t record much, and most of it belonged to this latter tradition, he composed a great number of successful plenas for different groups of this period. A native of the rural municipality of Jayuya, Toñín Romero embodies better than anyone the interactions between rural music and plena, of coastal and urban origin.
