About Anna Amalia, Princess of Prussia

Anna Amalia, Princess of Prussia (also known as Anna Amalia, Abbess of Quedlinburg) was born in Berlin in 1723. She was the daughter of King Frederick William I of Prussia. Her tyrannical and violent father did not allow her to study music and she was forced to study in secret until his death when she was 16 years old. In 1743 she married secretly and became pregnant. Her brother, King Frederick II found out about the marriage, had it annulled and packed his sister off to Quedlinburg Abbey
