Luys Maymón

The identity of Luis Maymón cannot be established with certainty. The surname is clearly Sephardic and derived from the name of the twelfth-century Jewish philosopher born in Córdoba in 1137, Moses Maimonides, and so it is likely that the ancestors of Luys Maymón originally had come from Spain to Naples. It is likely that he is the same lutenist named by Cerreto in 1601 as Luise Maglione who, together with his brother Garsi Maglione, is listed among those no longer alive
