About A Dustland Fairytale

It's a song about Brandon Flowers' parents falling in love. The title, Dustland Fairytale, alludes to the trailer park they both grew up in and that's where they fell in love. Some of the lyrics toward the end of song hold special meaning. "Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep/ It's such a bitter form of refuge/ Don't you know the kingdom's under siege?/ And everybody needs you." Cinderella, Flowers' Mother, actually suffers from a brain tumor, and it's a message from her son to hang on. .

A Dustland Fairytale Lyrics

[00:06.68] A dustland fairytale beginning
[00:10.35] Or just another white trash county kiss
[00:13.89] In '61, long brown hair and foolish eyes
[00:22.62] He'd looks just like you'd want him to
[00:25.58] Some kind of slick chrome American Prince
[00:29.63] A blue jean serenade and Moon river, what'd you do to me?
[00:38.89] I don't believe you
[00:43.65] Saw Cinderella in a party dress
[00:47.43] But she was looking for a nightgown
[00:51.17] I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
[00:54.67] He's getting ready for the showdown
[00:58.35] I saw the minute that I turned away
[01:01.96] I got my money on a pawn tonight
[01:07.66] A change came in disguise of revelation, set his soul on fire
[01:14.75] She said she always knew he'd come around
[01:21.66] And the decades disappear like sinking ships
[01:26.12] But we persevere, God gives us hope
[01:29.99] But we still fear what we don't know
[01:34.23] The mind is poisoned
[01:36.85] Castles in the sky sit stranded, vandalized
[01:42.94] The drawbridge is closing
[01:48.28] Saw Cinderella in a party dress
[01:51.73] But she was looking for a nightgown
[01:55.32] I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
[01:58.84] He's getting ready for the showdown
[02:02.40] I saw the ending when they turned the page
[02:06.08] I threw my money and I ran away
[02:09.47] Straight to the valley of the great divide
[02:13.92] Out where the dreams all hide
[02:17.64] Out where the wind don't blow
[02:21.02] Out here the good girls die
[02:24.92] And the sky won't snow
[02:28.29] Out here the birds don't sing
[02:31.71] Out here the fields don't grow
[02:35.44] Out here the bell don't ring
[02:38.87] Out here the bell don't ring
[02:46.15] Out here the good girls die
[02:48.62] Now Cinderella, don't you go to sleep?
[02:52.12] It's such a bitter form of refuge
[02:55.48] Oh, don't you know, the kingdom's under siege
[02:59.69] And everybody needs you
[03:03.00] Is there still magic in the midnight sun?
[03:06.53] Or did you leave it back in '61?
[03:10.26] In the cadence of a young man's eyes
[03:14.56] Out where the dreams all hide
[03:18.39]
