Children Say Lyrics

[00:21.36] I keep to myself
[00:40.55] what I might share with others
[00:42.75] but they don't seem to understand
[00:46.50] I open my mouth
[00:49.06] to rediscover
[00:50.60] that I don't have the words at my command
[00:54.59] holding out
[00:57.16] for a world so much better
[00:59.68] but I'm a stranger in a stranger's land
[01:03.07] all my friends have sold out
[01:05.22] couldn't handle the pressure
[01:07.42] counting their blessings trying to salvage what they can
[01:12.27] Children say - children say
[01:16.47] we open our minds as one
[01:20.94] but one more day - slips away
[01:25.16] why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
[01:29.51] When I overhear
[01:31.26] my parents conversations
[01:33.68] well I'm struck by the things they say
[01:36.86] it seems they traded the years
[01:39.65] for mere complications
[01:41.33] who ever thought it could end this way
[01:44.84] they close the door
[01:48.60] but they can't lock it
[01:50.48] 'cause something of their childhood remains
[01:57.44] and they've felt it before
[01:57.89] when the man in their pocket
[01:59.13] counted the cost of their material gains
[02:00.28] Children say - come what may
[02:07.21] be strong for the friends you've known
[02:11.86] but one fine day - (not) far away
[02:13.55] will we remember the love we used to own
[02:19.56] Children say - children say
[02:24.22] we open our minds as one
[02:30.15] as one more day slips away
[02:32.93] why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
[02:38.82] Well you knew what I was saying
[02:43.34] but did you know what it meant
[03:05.10] when you saw that look in my eye
[03:08.20] did you know it was heaven sent
[03:10.71] was it all a waking dream
[03:13.02] all that time we must have spent
[03:15.93] well I guess it must have been
[03:17.29] somehow that feeling came and went
[03:18.88] Children say - come what may
[03:20.87] be strong for the friends you've known
[03:23.25] but one fine day - (not) far away
[03:27.70] will we remember the love we used to own
[03:31.63] Children say - children say
[03:36.34] we open our minds as one
[03:40.36] as one more day - slips away
[03:45.29] why don't the dreams of the young never come to be
[03:49.68] Children say - children say
[03:51.70] we thought it would never go
[03:54.69] as one more day - slips away
[03:56.86] who ever thought we could be so lonely
[03:58.54]
