Wayne Shorter cooks up a hot tune here. The tune has a bebop-like headlong rush -- the head alone will get you out of your seat, it's so driving and interesting. Shorter has paired a harmony and melody that don't match up that closely -- the melody, intentionally (according to Shorter) has the feel of a solo. And of course Blakey swings his tush off behind it. Shorter does what he does so well: serve up a harmonically complex set of changes that nonetheless allow for someone to blow hard over them. .
