About 1955

Suffa spoke about the Restrung album’s second single with Triple J, the same radio station who premiered the track, stating: “1955 is about living in a small town, a place where things don’t change too much… sometimes living in a small town is like living in a different era. I actually love small town life, obviously it has its drawbacks, but I really enjoy the simplicity and being part of a community.” The track features guest vocalist Montaigne, and renowned beatboxer Tom Thumb. .

1955 Lyrics

[00:01.93] If your feeling low than give it ago "Try Lambert's sniffing salts Today"
[00:04.09] You know when you're doing a song about a small town
[00:08.48] You gotta start it with a cliche, you know what I'm sayin,
[00:11.87] Time moves a little slower here
[00:14.35] The paint peels cause the summers here are so severe
[00:17.10] And we're nowhere near no where you would know of
[00:19.74] Locals here pride, they show up just to show off
[00:22.84] Four men take a load off, just to watch the day go by
[00:25.96] Philosophising with their friends like they're Plato
[00:28.49] They prophecise on the bench by the main road, right
[00:31.58] They gotta if you say so guys
[00:34.51] But what do they know, Fox News got 'em lit
[00:37.29] They're shockers, fundamentalists, the new communists
[00:39.76] A girl with a shopping list, clutch her handbag close
[00:42.94] I'm like "damn man
[00:45.79] Cause I'm a gentlemen, but then again most of us are
[00:48.59] First name basis in the bank, the post-office, the bar
[00:51.53] The grocery, parks, hey lady I ain't tryna grab your pension
[00:55.00] The old men on the bench
[00:57.26] "Direct from the transistor radio in your lounge room. It's the entertainment that the whole family can enjoy."
[01:02.89] "Well I say looking slick will do the trick so try Barry's Brylcreem cream today
[01:07.27] Well lets go, lets go
[01:08.89] We're living in the days when everybody sayin'
[01:11.24] "What a time to be alive"
[01:13.50] But I'm feeling out of place like I live in outer space
[01:16.61] Cause it seems I'm stuck in time
[01:18.99] It's like we ride through life
[01:22.21] Right in the shadow of the cold war
[01:24.92] It gets so quiet at night
[01:27.40] Like martial law took a hold 55
[01:31.93] Time moves a little slower here
[01:34.35] A day feels like a week, a weekend feels like it could go a year
[01:37.10] And we're nowhere near nothing, man so true
[01:39.82] I don't tell 'em where I'm from, I tell 'em where I'm close to
[01:42.82] And I can go through an Atlas and show you on a map and
[01:46.25] You'd still look me sideways and treat me like I'm backwards
[01:49.22] But that's just fine, it so happens I'm
[01:51.86] Happy living in a city that is trapped in time
[01:54.60] While you're lined up in traffic I'm
[01:56.89] Not panicked by transit, I'm back in time
[01:59.65] For a TV dinner and an early night
[02:02.48] Cause we get dressed to travel, got an early flight
[02:05.29] Been doing laps of the Earth, we're doin' laps of the sun
[02:08.05] Tryna put where I'm at on the map cause where I'm from
[02:11.04] Would never get a mention, but all that and then some
[02:14.24] Once again the old men on the bench
[02:17.34] Across the country they came in waves. Thousands upon thousands of flying discs descending from the planet Mars."
[02:24.34] "For the closest shave try a Wilson's razor today."
[02:27.68] Well lets go, lets go
[02:28.84] We're living in the days when everybody sayin'
[02:31.41] "What a time to be alive"
[02:33.47] But I'm feeling out of place like I live in outer space
[02:36.82] Cause it seems I'm stuck in time
[02:39.12] It's like we ride through life
[02:41.84] Right in the shadow of the cold war
[02:44.86] It gets so quiet at night
[02:47.47] Like martial law took a hold your '55
[02:51.59] Where I go, where I go
[02:53.38] This will always be home, no matter
[02:57.32] Where I go, where I go
[02:58.92] This will always be home, no matter
[03:03.18] Where I go, where I go
[03:04.78] This will always be home, no matter
[03:08.80] Where I go, where I go
[03:10.40] This will always be home
[03:13.66] If you can't beat the summer heat then what you need is a Wordell's. Wordell Refrigerators: the cooler choice."
[03:21.53] "The dieting revolution taking the world by storm."
[03:24.86] Well Montaigne lets go
[03:25.72] We're living in the days when everybody sayin'
[03:28.45] "What a time to be alive"
[03:30.65] But I'm feeling out of place like I live in outer space
[03:33.88] Cause it seems I'm stuck in time
[03:36.27] It's like we ride through life
[03:39.16] Right in the shadow of the cold war
[03:41.97] It gets so quiet at night
[03:44.66] Like martial law took a hold your '55.
