About Augustine

The song is partly a reference to Saint Augustine, an African Bishop of Hippo born 354, who was a great writer; 5 million of his words still survive today, the most famous being Confessions. He is also the subject of the Bob Dylan song “I Saw Saint Augustine” Also of interest is the fact that St. Augustine’s family name, Aurelius, suggests that his father’s ancestors were freedmen (former slaves who has been released from slavery). Thus this .

Augustine Lyrics

[00:40.37] My father was a young man
[00:43.99] My mother off the boat
[00:47.69] My eyes were fresh at twenty-one
[00:51.44] Bruised but still afloat
[00:55.54] Our heads have hit the pavement
[01:00.08] Many times before
[01:04.02] You stroke his face to soothe him
[01:07.43] While knowing that there's more
[01:11.05] Saint Augustine
[01:18.88] Late have I loved and chose to see (what did I choose to see?)
[01:27.01] Skin on his skin
[01:34.14] A warmth that I can feel with him
[01:44.11] And no one even told me
[01:47.76] The way that you should feel
[01:51.83] Tell me did you lose your son?
[01:55.64] Tell me did you lose your love?
[01:59.82] Cry and burst my deafness, while Trayvon falls asleep
[02:06.67] The things that I can't do to you
[02:12.03] The things that I can't do to you
[02:15.12] Saint Augustine
[02:20.04] Late have I loved and chose to see (what I chose to see, what I)
[02:31.83] Skin on his skin
[02:38.40] A warmth that I can feel with him
[02:46.41] Nontetha (Nontetha)
[02:51.18] We heard it all from you (we heard it all from you)
[02:54.08] Nontetha
[02:58.62] We waited here for you (waited here for you)
[03:02.61] Nontetha (Nontetha)
[03:06.38] We heard it all from you (we heard it all from you)
[03:10.00] Nontetha
[03:14.49] We waited here for you (waited here for you)
[03:18.56] Nontetha
[03:22.77] We heard it all from you (we heard it all from you)
[03:26.21] Nontetha
[03:30.87] We waited here for you (we weaited here for you)
[03:33.69] Nontetha
[03:38.20] Kushé-o aw di bodi
[03:42.14] Nontetha
