About Cats In The Cradle

"Cat's in the Cradle" is a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin from the album Verities & Balderdash. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1974. The song later became a hit for the hard rock group Ugly Kid Joe. The Ugly Kid Joe cover of the song peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the UK singles chart, but is still often mistaken for a Guns N' Roses or a Skid Row cover of the song. Neither band has ever recorded this song and it has often been mislabeled as such on Gnutella and other Peer-to-peer networks. .

Cats In The Cradle Lyrics

[00:12.25] My child arrived just the other day
[00:15.59] Came to the world in the usual way
[00:18.14] But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
[00:22.29] He learned to walk while I was away
[00:24.87] He was talkin' 'fore I knew it
[00:26.58] And as he grew he said
[00:28.38] "I'm gonna be like you, dad"
[00:31.30] "You know I'm gonna be like you"
[00:35.73] And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
[00:39.27] Little boy blue and the man on the moon
[00:42.26] When you comin' home?
[00:43.46] Son, I don't know when
[00:45.61] We'll get together then
[00:48.44] You know we'll have a good time then
[00:54.42]
[00:58.52] Well, my son turned ten just the other day
[01:01.67] He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on, let's play"
[01:04.91] "Could you teach me to throw?"
[01:06.35] I said, "Not today, I got a lot to do"
[01:09.59] He said, "That's okay"
[01:11.43] And he walked away and he smiled and he said
[01:14.39] "You know, I'm gonna be like him," yeah
[01:17.86] You know I'm gonna be like him
[01:22.46] And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
[01:25.81] Little boy blue and the man on the moon
[01:28.98] When you comin' home?
[01:30.07] Son, I don't know when
[01:32.39] We'll get together then
[01:35.11] You know we'll have a good time then
[01:41.27]
[01:46.90] When he came from college just the other day
[01:49.92] So much like a man I just had to say
[01:53.59] "I'm proud of you"
[01:54.76] "Could you sit for a while?"
[01:56.62] He shook his head and he said with a smile
[01:59.63] "What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys"
[02:03.35] "See you later"
[02:04.30] "Can I have them, please?"
[02:07.41] And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
[02:10.95] Little boy blue and the man on the moon
[02:14.00] When you comin' home?
[02:15.14] Son, I don't know when
[02:17.42] We'll get together then
[02:20.27] You know we'll have a good time then
[02:26.23]
[02:38.42] I've long since retired, my son's moved away
[02:42.44] I called him up just the other day
[02:46.82] "I'd like to see you, if you don't mind"
[02:49.63] He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time"
[02:54.41] "You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu"
[02:57.84] "But it's sure nice talkin' to you, dad"
[03:00.98] "It's been sure nice talkin' to you"
[03:05.70] And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
[03:09.28] He'd grown up just like me
[03:12.48] My boy was just like me
[03:16.95] And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
[03:20.44] Little boy blue and the man on the moon
[03:23.49] When you comin' home?
[03:24.64] Son, I don't know when
[03:26.91] We'll get together then
[03:29.69] You know we'll have a good time then
[03:34.05] And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
[03:37.52] Little boy blue and the man on the moon
[03:40.72] When you comin' home?
[03:41.74] Son, I don't know when
[03:44.18] We'll get together then
[03:46.94] You know we'll have a good time then...
[03:52.15]
