Sequel

[00:00.62] So here she's actin' happy inside her handsome home

[00:28.20] First I thought about heading up north of the bay

[00:48.25] 'Cause that's how I got this far.

[01:05.14] Hitting Sixteen Parkside Lane.
[01:18.78] The driveway was the same as I remembered

[01:30.37] And said "She doesn't live here anymore."
[01:37.42] But he offered to give me the address
[01:41.22] That they were forwarding her letters to.
[01:45.04] I just took it and returned to the cabbie
[01:48.26] And said "I got one more fare for you."
[01:56.37] And so we rolled back into the city
[01:59.79] Up to a five store old brownstone
[02:03.78] I rang the bell that had her name on the mailbox.
[02:07.42] The buzzer said somebody's home.
[02:19.32] And the look on her face as she opened the door
[02:24.28] Was like an old joke told by a friend.
[02:28.18] It'd taken ten more years but she'd found her smile
[02:31.71] And I watched the corners start to bend.
[02:37.60] And she said, "How are you Harry?
[02:41.17] Haven't we played this scene before?"
[02:44.93] I said "It's so good to see you, Sue
[02:48.66] Had to play it out just once more."
[02:52.52] Play it out just once more.
[03:04.95] She said I've heard you flying high on my radio
[03:08.75] I answered "It's not all it seems"
[03:12.48] That's when she laughed and she said, "It's better sometimes
[03:16.47] When we don't get to touch our dreams."
[03:27.56] That's when I asked her where was that actress
[03:31.47] She said "That was somebody else"
[03:35.06] And then I asked her why she looked so happy now
[03:38.72] She said "I finally like myself, at last I like myself."
[04:15.01] So we talked all through that afternoon
[04:18.66] Talking about where we'd been
[04:22.44] We talked of the tiny difference
[04:25.68] Between ending and starting to begin.
[04:29.55] We talked because talking tells you things
[04:33.09] Like what you really are thinking about.
[04:36.42] But sometimes you can't find what you're feeling
[04:40.88] Till all the word run out.
[04:51.13] So I asked her to come to the concert.
[04:54.98] She said "No, I work at night."
[04:58.76] I said, "We've gotten too damn good at leaving, Sue"
[05:02.23] She said, "Harry, you're right."
[05:13.87] Don't ask me if I made love to her
[05:17.07] Or which one of us started to cry
[05:20.76] Don't ask me why she wouldn't take the money that I left
[05:24.36] If I answered at all I'd lie.
[05:37.16] So I thought about her as I sang that night
[05:40.85] And how the circle keeps rolling around.
[05:44.46] How I act as I'm facing the footlights
[05:47.92] And how she's flying with both feet on the ground.
[05:53.99] I guess it's a sequel to our story
[05:57.73] From the journey 'tween heaven and hell
[06:01.55] With half the time thinking of what might have been
[06:05.44] And half thinkin' just as well.
