About Heroin
"Heroin" is a song by The Velvet Underground, released on their 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground and Nico. Written by Lou Reed in 1964, the song is one of the band's most celebrated compositions, overtly depicting heroin use and abuse. Critic Mark Deming writes, "While 'Heroin' hardly endorses drug use, it doesn't clearly condemn it, either, which made it all the more troubling in the eyes of many listeners". In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked it #448 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. .
Heroin Lyrics
[00:51.97] I don't know just where I'm going
[01:10.05] But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
[01:21.06] 'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
[01:24.60] When I put a spike into my vein
[01:28.17] And I tell you things aren't quite the same
[01:31.43] When I'm rushing on my run
[01:34.70] And I feel just like Jesus' son
[01:38.17] And I guess that I just don't know
[01:41.45] And I guess that I just don't know
[01:53.32] I have made big decision
[02:12.00] I'm gonna try to nullify my life
[02:22.25] 'Cause when the blood begins to flow
[02:25.81] When it shoots up the dropper's neck
[02:29.27] When I'm closing in on death
[02:39.41] You can't help me now, you guys
[02:42.67] And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
[02:46.48] You can all go take a walk
[02:49.79] And I guess I just don't know
[02:53.27] And I guess that I just don't know
[03:05.80] I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
[03:22.43] I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas
[03:32.21] On a great big clipper ship
[03:36.01] Going from this land here to that
[03:39.58] On a sailor's suit and cap
[03:49.90] Away from the big city
[03:53.05] Where a man cannot be free
[03:56.25] Of all the evils of this town
[03:59.75] And of himself and those around
[04:03.15] Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
[04:06.68] Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
[04:18.63] Heroin, be the death of me
[04:37.12] Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life
[04:47.04] Because a mainline into my vein
[04:50.48] Leads to a center in my head
[04:53.83] And then I'm better off than dead
[05:16.80] Because when the smack begins to flow
[05:20.53] I really don't care anymore
[05:23.63] About all the Jim-Jims in this town
[05:26.78] And all the politicians making crazy sounds
[05:29.97] And everybody putting everybody else down
[05:33.15] And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds
[06:06.19] 'Cause when the smack begins to flow
[06:09.23] And I really don't care anymore
[06:19.07] Ah, when that heroin is in my blood
[06:22.56] And that blood is in my head
[06:25.85] Then thank God that I'm as good as dead
[06:29.03] And thank your God that I'm not aware
[06:32.25] And thank God that I just don't care
[06:35.54] And I guess I just don't know
[06:38.40] Oh, and I guess I just don't know
[06:45.36]
[01:10.05] But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
