On 16 November 2021, “Time Escaping” was released alongside the announcement of Big Thief’s fifth album "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You". The song was first debuted live on 17 February 2020 at Lisboa ao Vivo in Lisbon, Portugal and was later recorded for the album in October 2020 at Five Star Studios in Los Angeles, CA. "We kinda had this groove that felt good on the drums and we were searching for guitar sounds and we kept wanting to get the guitars to be drier so there was more space cause there’s a lot of words. .
