About The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by British folk singer Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger (who later became his (third) wife) after she requested he write a song for her to perform during a radio show in Los Angeles in which she was performing at the time. Seeger later recounted that she had started an affair with MacColl in London in 1956, but returned to the U.S. to separate herself physically from MacColl because he was already married with a child. .
