About Madman Across The Water

Madman Across the Water is the fourth studio album by British singer/songwriter Elton John, released in 1971. The title song, "Madman Across the Water", was set to be released on Elton John's previous album Tumbleweed Connection. However, it was set aside and would eventually be re-recorded and serve as the title track of this album. Previous versions of the song (from the Tumbleweed sessions with Mick Ronson on guitar) can still be found, specifically on the remastered Tumbleweed Connection CD. .

Madman Across The Water Lyrics

[00:25.75] I can see very well
[00:33.28] There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
[00:38.67] And I can see it very well
[00:42.59]
[00:47.26] There's a joke and I know it very well
[00:54.37] It's one of those that I told you long ago
[01:00.06] Take my word, I'm a madman, don't you know?
[01:05.45]
[01:09.02] Once a fool had a good part in the play
[01:16.21] If it's so, would I still be here today?
[01:21.35] It's quite peculiar in a funny sort of way
[01:26.74] They think it's very funny everything I say
[01:33.88] Get a load of him, he's so insane
[01:39.15] You better get your coat, dear
[01:42.59] It looks like rain
[01:47.52] We'll come again next Thursday afternoon
[01:52.40]
[01:54.58] The in-laws hope they'll see you very soon
[01:59.97]
[02:02.03] But is it in your conscience that you're after
[02:08.78] Another glimpse of the madman across the water?
[02:13.15] I can see very well
[04:36.94] There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
[04:42.17] And I can see it very well
[04:45.94]
[04:50.27] There's a joke and I know it very well
[04:57.26] It's one of those that I told you long ago
[05:02.66] Take my word, I'm a madman, don't you know?
[05:08.16] The ground's a long way down but I need more
[05:14.05] Is the nightmare black
[05:15.87] Or are the windows painted?
[05:20.02] Will they come again next week?
[05:23.19] Can my mind really take it?
[05:28.23] We'll come again next Thursday afternoon
[05:33.11]
[05:35.25] The in-laws hope they'll see you very soon
[05:40.10]
[05:42.44] But is it in your conscience that you're after
[05:49.18] Another glimpse of the madman across the water?
[06:00.43]
