About Fever

"Fever" is a song written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, who used the pseudonym "John Davenport". In May 1958, Peggy Lee recorded a cover version of "Fever" in Hollywood, which featured significantly rewritten lyrics composed by Lee herself without credit. The uncopyrighted lyrics by Lee featured historical invocations (including the verses beginning "Romeo loved Juliet," and "Captain Smith and Pocahontas") and are now generally thought of as a standard part of the song; they have been included in most subsequent covers of "Fever". .

Fever Lyrics

[00:15.17] Never know how much I love you
[00:17.54] Never know how much I care
[00:20.89] When you put your arms around me
[00:24.52] I get a fever that's so hard to bear
[00:27.35] You give me fever
[00:30.62] When you kiss me
[00:32.71] Fever when you hold me tight
[00:35.97] Fever
[00:37.47] In the mornin'
[00:39.26] A fever all through the night
[00:42.01] Sun lights up the day time
[00:45.67] Moon lights up the night
[00:48.92] I light up when you call my name
[00:53.20] And you know I'm gonna treat you right
[00:55.83] You give me fever
[00:58.53] When you kiss me
[01:00.47] Fever when you hold me tight
[01:02.80] Fever in the mornin'
[01:04.98]
[01:07.31] A fever all through the night
[01:10.11] Everybody's got the fever
[01:14.82] That is somethin' you all know
[01:18.02] Fever isn't such a new thing
[01:21.40] Fever started long ago
[01:24.41]
[01:31.69] Romeo loved Juliet
[01:35.06] Juliet, she felt the same
[01:38.87] When he put his arms around her
[01:42.14] He said, "Julie baby, you're my flame"
[01:44.91] Thou givest fever
[01:47.68] When we kisseth
[01:49.72] Fever with thy flaming youth
[01:52.23] Fever
[01:54.84] I'm on fire
[01:56.54] Fever, yea I burn forsooth
[01:59.38]
[02:04.81] Captain Smith and Pocahontas
[02:08.13]
[02:10.45] Had a very mad affair
[02:13.08] When her daddy tried to kill him
[02:16.73] She said, "Daddy, oh, don't you dare"
[02:20.27] He gives me fever
[02:21.46] With his kisses
[02:24.40] Fever when he holds me tight
[02:26.82] Fever
[02:29.56] I'm his missus
[02:31.07] And daddy, won't you treat him right?
[02:34.36] Now you've listened to my story
[02:37.97] Here's the point that I have made
[02:40.70] Chicks were born to give you fever
[02:45.07] Be it fahrenheit or centigrade
[02:48.23] They give you fever
[02:50.60] When we kiss them
[02:53.28] Fever, if you live you learn
[02:55.16] Fever
[02:58.23] 'Til you sizzle
[02:59.81] Oh, what a lovely way to burn
[03:02.45] Oh, what a lovely way to burn
[03:05.81] What a lovely way to burn
[03:09.27] And what a lovely way to burn
[03:10.47]
