About Start!

This is an example of how to wear your influences on your sleeve, without being a complete plagiarist! Like many of the songs on "Sound Affects", The Jam were obviously very heavily influenced by The Beatles' LP "Revolver" at this time (the closing bass flutter on "Going Underground" is a subtle nod to McCartney's final note on "And Your Bird Can Sing", for example). The bassline on this track takes the guitar riff from "Taxman" and turns it into something new. .

Start! Lyrics

[00:07.23] It's not important for you to know my name
[00:10.95] Nor I to know yours
[00:14.04] If we communicate for two minutes only
[00:17.69] It will be enough
[00:22.03] For knowing that someone in this world
[00:25.72] Feels as desperate as me
[00:27.54] And what you give is what you get
[00:29.81]
[00:36.11] It doesn't matter if we never meet again
[00:39.68] What we have said will always remain
[00:42.87] If we get through for two minutes only
[00:46.62] It will be a start
[00:50.93] For knowing that someone in this life
[00:54.42] Loves with a passion called hate
[00:56.61] And what you give is what you get
[00:58.60]
[01:05.39] If I never, ever see you
[01:07.01] (If I never, ever see you)
[01:09.04] If I never, ever see you
[01:10.77] (If I never, ever see you)
[01:12.65] If I never, ever see you
[01:15.12] Again
[01:17.68]
[01:29.82] If I never, ever see you
[01:31.68] (See you, see you)
[01:33.59] If I never, ever see you
[01:35.40] (See you, see you, see you)
[01:37.03] If I never, ever see you
[01:39.46] Again
[01:42.10]
[01:48.76] And what you give is what you get
[01:50.52]
[01:55.79] And what you give is what you get
[01:57.46]
[02:02.62] And what you give is what you get
[02:04.64]
[02:09.68] And what you give is what you get
[02:11.68]
[02:16.58] And what you give is what you get
[02:18.29]
[02:23.46] And what you give is what you get
[02:25.93]
