About Quiet Town

In 1994, Tiffany JaNae Taylor and Raymond Leo Newton were killed in a grade-crossing accident with a Union Pacific train. The couple, who were both from Brandon Flowers' hometown of Nephi, Utah, were just 17 years old. The Killers frontman was in the eighth grade at the time of the tragic event. During this country heartbreaker, Flowers laments the loss of the two seniors from his high school. He admitted to NME that as he wrote the song he found himself still really affected by the train accident. .

Quiet Town Lyrics

[00:01.90] (Ah yeah, oh no, the train, the train)
[00:04.85] (Every two or three years the train kills somebody)
[00:08.31] (Every two, three years, yup)
[00:10.68] (Everyone knows about the train, okay, you hear it constantly)
[00:18.72] (I think the train is a way to find your way out of this life)
[00:23.12] (If you get hit by it)
[00:43.65] A couple of kids got hit by a Union Pacific train
[00:50.58] Carrying sheet metal and household appliances through the pouring rain
[00:58.39] They were planning on getting married after graduation
[01:02.25] Had a little baby girl, trouble came and shut it down
[01:08.60] Things like that ain't supposed to happen
[01:12.80] In this quiet town, families are tight
[01:20.97] Good people, they still don't deadbolt their doors at night
[01:28.22] In this quiet town
[01:35.00] (In this quiet)
[01:43.76] When we first heard opioid stories
[01:47.01] They were always in whispering tones
[01:52.48] Now banners of sorrow mark the front steps of childhood homes
[01:57.84] Parents wept through daddy's girl eulogies
[02:00.52] And merit badge milestones with their daughters and sons
[02:05.61] Laying there lifeless in their suits and gowns
[02:10.26] Somebody's been keepin' secrets
[02:14.69] In this quiet town, they know how to live
[02:23.29] Good people who lean on Jesus, they're quick to forgive
[02:30.24] In this quiet town
[02:45.75] And whenever I'm near the town I'll find some reason to give
[02:53.40] And I will walk with the dead and the living where I used to live
[03:00.00] And every time I see my parents in the prime of their lives
[03:04.69] Offering their son the kind of love he could never put down
[03:12.15] The part of me is still that stainless kid, lucky
[03:16.78] In this quiet town, salt of the land
[03:24.59] Hard-working people, if you're in trouble, they'll lend you a hand
[03:31.27] Here in this quiet town
[04:04.87] The first crop of hay is up
[04:08.21] School let out and the sun beats down
[04:12.50] Smoke billows from a Sunday train
[04:15.79] That cries away from a quiet town
