Devil Died in Dixie

[00:00.17] When the devil went down to Georgia, came to 'Bama for revenge

[00:06.91] Well, he walked his way from Macon with that murder on his mind
[00:10.20] The night he met ol' W.T. right passed the Monroe County Line
[00:19.92] Well, W.T. was a navy vet and the meanest cuss around
[00:22.89] He had a nasty reputation, was the toughest man in town
[00:26.36] Owned the Monroe Service Station and an ambulance to drive
[00:29.72] Well, that devil coulda used one past the Monroe County Line

[00:59.60] Well, the devil heard what happened, so he asked him for a ride

[01:12.10] They wound up in the black of night down a God forsaken road
[01:15.34] Devil said, "Let's park the truck and take a walk down through these pines"

[01:45.01] As they walked down that ol' logging road in the 'Bama timberland
[01:48.33] Well, they came up on a six-foot hole with red clay 'round the sides
[01:52.12] Someone's 'bout to lay down past the Monroe County Line
[02:01.13] Well, the devil told ol' W.T. "Get on your knees and beg"
[02:04.21] As W.T. was getting down, he pulled that switchblade from his leg
[02:08.04] He stabbed him once and that devil dropped that old colt .45
[02:11.28] Now, the devil's bleeding out right passed the Monroe County
[02:16.74]
[02:49.00] Now, maybe down in Georgia he bet Johnny for his soul
[02:51.98] But when he crossed ol' W.T. that devil wound up in a hole
[02:55.78] Shoulda known that down in 'Bama you don't make it out alive
[02:59.05] Now, the devil's buried somewhere past the Monroe County Line
