About Ribs

“Ribs” is an ethereal lament about adolescence, and the bittersweet experience of growing up. Lorde has said she especially likes the song. Lorde sings in the same deep, smoky voice showcased in her cover of “Swingin' Party”, and then switching to a younger, higher voice in the choruses. She debuted it live in New York at Le Poisson Rouge on August 6. She later premiered the track on KCRW. Lorde talked about what inspired this song at a concert: .

Ribs Lyrics

[00:48.37] The drink you spilt all over me
[00:56.38] "Lover's Spit" left on repeat
[01:03.23] My mom and dad let me stay home
[01:11.91] It drives you crazy getting old
[01:18.53] We can talk it so good
[01:22.50] We can make it so divine
[01:26.02] We can talk it good
[01:27.63] How you wish it would be all the time
[01:30.85]
[01:33.24] The drink you spilt all over me
[01:35.35] "Lover's Spit" left on repeat
[01:37.01] My mom and dad let me stay home
[01:39.17] It drives you crazy getting old
[01:41.08] The drink you spilt all over me
[01:42.97] "Lover's Spit" left on repeat
[01:44.79] My mom and dad let me stay home
[01:46.98] It drives you crazy getting old
[01:49.98]
[02:03.55] This dream isn't feeling sweet
[02:10.99] We're reeling through the midnight streets
[02:18.14] And I've never felt more alone
[02:24.60]
[02:26.82] It feels so scary getting old
[02:33.43] We can talk it so good
[02:37.58] We can make it so divine
[02:41.38] We can talk it good
[02:42.45] How you wish it would be all the time
[02:46.21]
[02:48.86] This dream isn't feeling sweet, we're reeling through the midnight streets
[02:52.15] And I've never felt more alone, feels so scary getting old
[02:56.04] This dream isn't feeling sweet, we're reeling through the midnight streets
[02:59.80] And I've never felt more alone, feels so scary getting old
[03:04.85]
[03:17.86] I want 'em back, I want 'em back
[03:19.81] The minds we had, the minds we had
[03:21.77] How all the thoughts, how all the thoughts
[03:23.43] Moved 'round our heads, moved 'round our heads
[03:25.68] I want 'em back, I want 'em back
[03:27.41] The minds we had, the minds we had
[03:29.34] It's not enough to feel the lack
[03:31.22] I want 'em back, I want 'em back, I want 'em
[03:33.81] You're the only friend I need (you're the only friend I need)
[03:37.16] Sharing beds like little kids (sharing beds like little kids)
[03:40.96] And laughing 'til our ribs get tough (laughing 'til our ribs get tough)
[03:44.65] But that will never be enough (but that will never be enough)
[03:48.31] You're the only friend I need (you're the only friend I need)
[03:52.17] Sharing beds like little kids (sharing beds like little kids)
[03:55.92] And laughing 'til our ribs get tough (laughing 'til our ribs get tough)
[03:59.89] But that will never be enough (but that will never be enough)
[04:03.53] (But that will never be enough)
[04:05.52] (But that will never be enough)
[04:06.97] (But that will never be enough)
[04:09.29] (But that will never be enough)
[04:10.42]
