This Morning I Am Born Again

[00:03.26] This morning I am born again, and light shines through the land
[00:09.42] I'd give myself, my heart, my soul, to lend a friend a hand
[00:15.71] And every deathly humming dove I love and understand
[00:22.05] And there is only emptiness against me
[00:28.05] Where once the dust I suffered from would find me in my sleep
[00:34.58] It pushed me and it pulled me, and it promised many things
[00:40.65] I moved too fast, I throttled back, ashamed at my relief
[00:47.09] I feared the gentleness of my ambition
[00:53.52] This morning I am light, untying unwritten belief
[00:59.78] I ride the rising horselight as it drives across the creek
[01:06.44] And breezes lap the bracken back and slip between my teeth
[01:13.09] And all around is evidence of plenty
[01:19.36] I've seen pasture after pasture and their fragments in the air
[01:25.74] I've seen bodies flown and bodies thrown and bodies shown such care
[01:32.38] I've gathered up my own, and there were still so many there
[01:38.78] Asking who is making up these questions
[01:45.26] This morning I am born, and I am for the forms we are
[01:51.57] In our great eternal moment in the thrall of our own star
[01:58.06] In our bordered and our neighbored and our tortured little yards
[02:05.05] Fighting all this emptiness against us
[02:10.76] So we hip the sumac, lip the dew sap, rip the rabbit lines
[02:17.12] So we dash the sun-drenched tacked and tongueless "No Trespassing" signs
[02:23.59] Like raspberries and leaves and steam, we reach into our skies
[02:30.54] And there is only emptiness against us
[02:38.06]
