About Spanish Harlem

"Spanish Harlem" is a song released by Ben E. King in 1960 on Atco Records, written by Jerry Leiber and Phil Spector, and produced by Leiber and Mike Stoller. During a 1968 interview, Leiber credited Stoller with the arrangement; similarly, in a 2009 radio interview with Leiber and Stoller on the Bob Edwards "Weekend Edition" talk show, Jerry Leiber said that Stoller, while uncredited, had written the key instrumental introduction to the record.[citation needed] In the team's autobiography from the same year .

Spanish Harlem Lyrics

[00:09.24] There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
[00:17.00] A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
[00:24.97] It is the special one, it's never seen the sun
[00:29.46] It only comes out when the moon is on the run
[00:32.38] And all the stars are gleaming
[00:38.37] It's growing in the street right up through the concrete
[00:43.23] But soft and sweet and dreaming
[00:48.26]
[00:53.60] There is a rose in Spanish Harlem
[01:01.33] A red rose up in Spanish Harlem
[01:08.91] With eyes as black as coal that looks down in my soul
[01:13.52] And starts a fire there and then I lose control
[01:16.33] I have to beg your pardon
[01:22.24] I'm goin' to pick that rose and watch her as she grows in my garden
[01:32.07]
[02:20.94] I'm goin' to pick that rose and watch her as she grows
[02:27.21] In my garden
[02:28.76] (There is a rose in Spanish garden)
[02:32.29] La la la, la la la, la la la la
[02:37.16] (There is a rose in Spanish garden)
[02:40.09] La la la, la la la, la la la la
[02:44.27] (There is a rose in Spanish garden)
[02:45.59]
