About Regulate

"Regulate" is a song by rapper Warren G featuring singer Nate Dogg. It was released on April 23, 1994 as the lead single to the soundtrack to the 1994 film Above the Rim and later Warren G's debut album, Regulate... G Funk Era. The West Coast hip-hop track employs a 4-bar sample of the rhythm of Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)". It also samples "Sign of the Times" by Bob James and interpolates Dr. Dre's "Let Me Ride" (1992). .

Regulate Lyrics

[00:03.54] Regulators
[00:05.36] We regulate any stealin' of his property
[00:07.21] We're damn good too
[00:09.06] But you can't be any geek off the street
[00:11.68] Gotta be handy with the steel
[00:13.16] If you know what I mean, earn your keep
[00:15.55] (Regulators, mount up)
[00:19.63] It was a clear black night, a clear white moon
[00:22.34] Warren G was on the streets, tryin' to consume
[00:24.90] Some skirts for the eve, so I can get some phones
[00:27.58] Rollin' in my ride, chillin' all alone
[00:29.74] Just hit the east side of the LBC
[00:32.49] On a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G
[00:34.93] Seen a car full of girls ain't no need to tweak
[00:37.49] All you skirts know what's up with 213
[00:39.81] So I hooks a left on 21 and Lewis
[00:42.56] Some brothas shootin' dice, so I said, "Let's do this"
[00:45.05] I jumped out the ride, and said, "What's up?"
[00:47.56] Some brothas pulled some gats, so I said, "I'm stuck"
[00:49.82] Since these girls peepin' me, I'ma glide and swerve
[00:52.35] These hookers lookin' so hard, they straight hit the curb
[00:55.03] Onto bigger, better things than some horny tricks
[00:57.22] I see my homie and some suckers all in his mix
[01:00.24] I'm gettin' jacked, I'm breakin' myself
[01:02.70] I can't believe they takin' Warren's wealth
[01:05.10] They took my rings, they took my Rolex
[01:07.52] I looked at the brotha said, "Damn, what's next?"
[01:09.92] They got my homie hemmed up and they all around
[01:12.43] Can't none of 'em see him if they going straight pound for pound
[01:14.99] They wanna come up real quick before they start to clown
[01:17.49] I best pull out my strap and lay them busters down
[01:19.98] They got guns to my head, I think I'm goin' down
[01:22.95] I can't believe this happenin' in my own town
[01:25.00] If I had wings I would fly, let me contemplate
[01:28.03] I glanced in the cut and I see my homie Nate
[01:30.24] Sixteen in the clip and one in the hole
[01:32.76] Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn cold
[01:35.29] Now they droppin' and yellin', it's a tad bit late
[01:37.88] Nate Dogg and Warren G had to regulate
[01:42.12]
[02:00.10] I laid all them busters down, I let my gat explode
[02:02.99] Now I'm switchin' my mind back into freak mode
[02:05.76] If you want skirts, sit back and observe
[02:07.94] I just left a gang of those over there on the curb
[02:10.40] Now Nate got the freaks and that's a known fact
[02:13.19] Before I got jacked, I was on the same track
[02:15.83] Back up, back up, 'cause it's on
[02:17.61] N-A-T-E and me, the Warren to the G
[02:20.86] Just like I thought, they were in the same spot
[02:23.29] In need of some desperate help
[02:26.17] But Nate Dogg and the G-child
[02:28.09] We're in need of something else
[02:30.94] One of them dames was sexy as hell
[02:32.61] I said, "Ooh, I like your size"
[02:35.41] She said, "My car's broke down, and you seem real nice
[02:38.19] Would ya let me ride?"
[02:40.51] I got a car full of girls, and it's goin' real swell
[02:45.62] The next stop is the Eastside Motel
[02:51.54]
[03:11.00] I'm tweaking, into a whole new era
[03:13.73] G-funk, step to this, I dare ya
[03:16.15] Funk, on a whole new level
[03:18.50] The rhythm is the bass and the bass is the treble
[03:21.12] Chords, strings, we brings melody
[03:26.22] G-funk, where rhythm is life
[03:28.65] And life is rhythm
[03:31.62] If you know like I know
[03:33.76] You don't wanna step to this
[03:36.60] It's the G-funk era
[03:38.39] Funked out with a gangsta twist
[03:41.55] If you smoke like I smoke
[03:43.48] Then you're high like everyday
[03:46.49] And if your ass is a buster, 213 will regulate
[04:08.05]
