About The Liberty Bell
This lively march was originally composed in 1893 to be part of a planned operetta, "The Devil's Deputy". After the financing fell through, Sousa renamed the march after Philadelphia's Liberty Bell. Sousa sold the march to the John Church Company, making it the first composition to bring Sousa a significant income. Long popular with marching bands in both the United States and abroad, the march was chosen by members of the British comedy troupe "Monty Python's Flying Circus' for their television series in 1969 .
