In “Wishful Thinking” BENEE preemptively deals with the trials and tribulations of a long-distance relationship. In an interview with Acclaim, BENEE revealed that the song was written at the same time that standalone 2017 single, “Tough Guy” was penned. "I know it doesn’t really sound sad, but it has this melancholic vibe to me because I wrote it about a long distance relationship… It was sad when we made it and it was mixed, mastered .
