The Fear of the Lord Lyrics

[00:11.08] Proverbs 1: 7 says that the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, what exactly is the fear of the Lord?
[00:18.27] When you think fear, what comes to mind?
[00:20.95] Well, when it comes to fearing God, you shouldn't think fear in the same way a person fears snakes or heights or the mafia, nah.
[00:30.00] The idea is more what you think when you starin' out into the vastness of the ocean, or standing on the precipice of the grand canyon.
[00:38.24] To fear the Lord is to stand in awe before the reality of God, and therein lies the problem.
[00:46.34] In this sin-infected world we live in, the fear of the Lord is the exception not the rule.
[00:51.86] Scripture teaches that the fear of the Lord is hatred of evil,
[00:56.39] And that it's by the fear of the Lord that one turns away from evil,
[00:59.98] But it says in Romans 3: 10 that none is righteous, no not one,
[01:04.50] No one understands, no one seeks God.
[01:07.30] All have turned aside, together they have become worthless.
[01:10.86] No one does good, not even one.
[01:12.64] And then it goes on to say in verse 15:
[01:15.49] Their feet are swift to shed blood, and their paths are ruined in misery, and the way of peace they have not known.
[01:22.69] And what's the reason for that? What's the source of all the violence and the evil? 18:
[01:29.03] There is no fear of God before their eyes.
[01:32.60] So all the evil in this world can be traced back to not fearing the Lord.
[01:37.26] And if the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, then not fearing the Lord must lead to death.
[01:43.69] And that's where we all stand.
[01:45.47] In the prophet Isaiah chapter 11, we find a prophecy about a Savior to come, and it says in verse 3 that:
[01:52.79] His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
[01:55.44] That Savior is none other than Jesus Christ.
[01:59.00] Who lived a life in perfect obedience to God's law.
[02:02.71] Jesus feared God perfectly,
[02:04.59] And He died on the cross and rose from the grave
[02:08.11] To save His people from their sins, so that,
[02:09.92] All who trust in Him, can joyfully walk in the fear of the Lord,
[02:14.50] Forever.
[02:37.14]
