About Fight The Power

"Fight the Power" is a song by American hip-hop group Public Enemy, released as a single in the summer of 1989 on Motown Records. It was conceived at the request of film director Spike Lee, who sought a musical theme for his 1989 film Do the Right Thing. First issued on the film's 1989 soundtrack, a different version was featured on Public Enemy's 1990 studio album Fear of a Black Planet. "Fight the Power" incorporates various samples and allusions to African-American culture .

Fight The Power Lyrics

[00:01.48] Yet our best trained, best educated, best equipped
[00:05.20] Best prepared troops refuse to fight
[00:08.91] As a matter of fact, it's safe to say that they would rather switch
[00:11.85]
[00:14.91] Than fight
[00:18.95]
[00:44.62] 1989 the number another summer (get down)
[00:49.19] Sound of the funky drummer
[00:50.56] Music hitting your heart 'cause I know you got soul
[00:52.92] (Brothers and sisters, hey)
[00:54.63] Listen if you're missing y'all
[00:56.25] Swinging while I'm singing
[00:58.00] Giving whatcha getting
[00:59.31] Knowing what I know
[01:00.44] While the Black bands sweating
[01:02.30] And the rhythm rhymes rolling
[01:03.74] Got to give us what we want
[01:05.82] Gotta give us what we need
[01:07.98] Our freedom of speech is freedom or death
[01:10.11] We got to fight the powers that be
[01:11.83] Lemme hear you say
[01:12.82] Fight the power
[01:15.53] Fight the power
[01:17.42] Fight the power
[01:19.64] Fight the power
[01:21.89] Fight the power
[01:24.20] Fight the power
[01:26.39] Fight the power
[01:28.28] We've got to fight the powers that be
[01:30.65] As the rhythm designed to bounce
[01:32.14] What counts is that the rhymes
[01:33.69] Designed to fill your mind
[01:35.24] Now that you've realized the pride's arrived
[01:37.31] We got to pump the stuff to make us tough
[01:39.59] From the heart
[01:40.25] It's a start, a work of art
[01:41.62] To revolutionize make a change nothing's strange
[01:44.52] People, people we are the same
[01:46.64] No we're not the same
[01:47.58] 'Cause we don't know the game
[01:49.04] What we need is awareness, we can't get careless
[01:51.88] You say what is this?
[01:53.64] My beloved lets get down to business
[01:56.34] Mental self defensive fitness
[01:57.99] Don't rush the show
[02:00.09] You gotta go for what you know
[02:01.75] Make everybody see, in order to fight the powers that be
[02:06.24] Lemme hear you say
[02:07.21] Fight the power
[02:09.84] Fight the power
[02:11.57] Fight the power
[02:14.26] Fight the power
[02:16.26] Fight the power
[02:18.70] Fight the power
[02:20.86] Fight the power
[02:22.31] We've got to fight the powers that be
[02:24.66]

[03:01.26] Elvis was a hero to most
[03:04.05] Elvis was a hero to most
[03:06.27] Elvis was a hero to most
[03:07.81] But he never meant s- to me you see
[03:10.16] Straight up racist that sucker was
[03:11.68] Simple and plain
[03:12.46] Mother f- him and John Wayne
[03:14.05] 'Cause I'm Black and I'm proud
[03:15.33] I'm ready and hyped plus I'm amped
[03:17.24] Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps
[03:19.50] Sample a look back you look and find
[03:21.38] Nothing but rednecks for 400 years if you check
[03:23.84] Don't worry be happy
[03:25.09] Was a number one jam
[03:26.53] Damn if I say it you can slap me right here
[03:29.08] (Get it) lets get this party started right
[03:31.71] Right on, c'mon
[03:33.26] What we got to say?
[03:34.85] Power to the people no delay
