Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot

About Sundown

"Sundown" peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart in the Spring of 1974, as well as the Billboard Hot 100 in the Summer. Cathy Smith, Canadian backup singer, groupie, drug dealer, was the inspiration for the Gordon Lightfoot song "Sundown". Lightfoot confirmed in a documentary and interviews that the song was written about his tumultuous, extramarital relationship with her in the early 1970s. Lightfoot wrote the song one evening while his then-girlfriend Smith was out at a bar with friends. .

Sundown Lyrics

[00:18.49] I can see her lying back in her satin dress
[00:23.02] In a room where you do what you don't confess
[00:28.68] Sundown, you better take care
[00:32.18] If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs
[00:37.76] Sundown, you better take care
[00:41.13] If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs
[00:47.83] She's been looking like a queen in a sailor's dream
[00:52.54] And she don't always say what she really means
[00:58.07] Sometimes I think it's a shame
[01:01.55] When I get feeling better, when I'm feeling no pain
[01:07.09] Sometimes I think it's a shame
[01:10.59] When I get feeling better, when I'm feeling no pain
[01:17.13]
[01:21.93] I can picture every move that a man could make
[01:26.86] Getting lost in her loving is your first mistake
[01:32.10] Sundown, you better take care
[01:35.67] If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs
[01:41.38] Sometimes I think it's a sin
[01:44.61] When I feel like I'm winning, when I'm losing again
[01:50.78]
[02:23.48] I can see her looking fast in her faded jeans
[02:28.10] She's a hard-loving woman, got me feeling mean
[02:33.25] Sometimes I think it's a shame
[02:36.94] When I get feeling better, when I'm feeling no pain
[02:42.35] Sundown, you better take care
[02:46.07] If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs
[02:51.57] Sundown, you better take care
[02:55.24] If I find you been creeping 'round my back stairs
[03:03.07] Sometimes I think it's a sin
[03:06.37] When I feel like I'm winning, when I'm losing again
[03:10.40]
