About Caroline, No

The song may have been inspired by a former girlfriend of lyricist Tony Asher, who had moved to New York and cut her hair. In high school, Wilson became obsessed with Carol Mountain, a classmate and unrequited love interest. The song was initially written as "Carol, I Know". When spoken, however, Brian Wilson heard this as "Caroline, No." After the confusion was resolved, the pair decided to keep the new title, feeling that it brought a poignant earnestness to the song's sad melody. .

Caroline, No Lyrics

[00:06.70] Where did your long hair go?
[00:13.15] Where is the girl I used to know?
[00:19.04] How could you lose that happy glow?
[00:26.45] Oh, Caroline, no
[00:31.37] Who took that look away?
[00:37.57] I remember how you used to say
[00:43.74] You'd never change, but that's not true
[00:50.97] Oh, Caroline you break my heart
[00:56.87] I want to go and cry
[01:00.88] It's so sad to watch a sweet thing die
[01:06.93] Oh, Caroline, why?
[01:11.93] Could I ever find in you again
[01:18.08] The things that made me love you so much then?
[01:23.96] Could we ever bring 'em back once they have gone?
[01:34.82] Oh, Caroline, no
[01:39.12]
