About Teach Your Children

"Teach Your Children" is a song by Graham Nash. Although it was written when Nash was a member of The Hollies, it was never recorded by that group, and first appeared on the album Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young released in 1970. It quickly became a counterculture anthem, one of the first public performances of the song having taken place on November 15, 1969, at a San Francisco rally against the Vietnam war, shortly after the album was recorded but before its release. .

Teach Your Children Lyrics

[00:11.96] You, who are on the road
[00:17.03] Must have a code
[00:20.28] That you can live by
[00:23.92] And so
[00:26.46] Become yourself
[00:29.50] Because the past
[00:32.67] Is just a goodbye
[00:36.33] Teach your children well
[00:41.56] Your fathers' hell did slowly go by
[00:48.66] And feed them on your dreams
[00:54.01] The one they pick's
[00:57.29] The one you'll know by
[01:01.93] Don't you ever ask them why
[01:05.52] If they told you, you would cry
[01:08.87] So just look at them and sigh
[01:15.62] And know they love you
[01:28.83] And you of tender years
[01:34.54] Can't know the fears
[01:37.73] That your elders grew by
[01:40.99] And so please help
[01:43.89] Them with your youth
[01:46.89] They seek the truth
[01:49.96] Before they can die
[01:54.26] Teach your parents well
[01:58.73] The children's hell
[02:02.24] Will slowly go by
[02:06.04] And feed them on your dreams
[02:11.12] The one they pick's
[02:14.87] The one you'll know by
[02:19.48] Don't you ever ask them why
[02:23.00] If they told you, you would cry
[02:26.14] So just look at them and sigh
[02:33.40] And know they love you
[02:51.17]
