Drink A Little Beer Lyrics
[00:00.25] Thanks for joining us for the Thomas Rhett "Life Changes" album release special
[00:03.70] On Big Machine Radio
[00:04.91] We are playing all the songs off the album for you, and
[00:07.60] I gotta be honest, there are some song on here that maybe some people might think
[00:11.12] "Oh, you know, that was a curve ball or
[00:13.53] The sound of that, maybe," this one actually kinda caught me by surprise
[00:18.01] Because it's perhaps one of the more country sounding songs
[00:22.14] On here, in terms of fiddle and throwback
[00:24.05] It reminded me of kinda Alabama throwback
[00:26.10] "Drink A Little Beer", which features your dad on there
[00:28.73] And he also had a hand in writing that, so
[00:30.73] I mean talk to me about this song and the fact that
[00:33.65] In some ways, I mean it's almost like blending his 90s career
[00:36.93] With where you are today
[00:38.37] Yeah, I think it's hilarious that
[00:40.31] I think it kinda proves that we've curved out enough of a lane in this genre
[00:43.80] For that to be the weirdest song on the record
[00:45.75] (It kinda shocked me) I think like
[00:47.58] That's such a funny, and I think that's why I cut it 'cause I think
[00:50.99] I love just making people be like, "Wow"
[00:53.56] Like "I was definitely not expecting that"
[00:55.34] And this is one of those ones that I think, I know for a fact when people hear this record
[00:58.44] When they get to that song they're gonna think, "I cannot believe that this track is on here"
[01:01.54] And so, it's nice to just dive back in to what I grew up listening to
[01:06.05] And actually cut an original song that has such an ode to like 70s and 80s country
[01:11.48] And especially to have my dad, who that's when he grew up
[01:14.55] Uhm, to have a song like that with him on it
[01:17.12] That basically describes why he loves country music in the first place
[01:20.17] And so the song is cool, and the song is super catchy
[01:23.93] And I think it'll be a really great song live, but more so than that
[01:26.92] It's just, you know, as old as I get
[01:29.04] I can always say that me and my dad sang a song together on my record
[01:32.16] Well, and I was gonna ask, the end is kinda fun
[01:34.58] And somebody described to me, "Oh, wait the Alan Jackson moment's gonna be coming"
[01:37.80] So did you guys just sorta leave the tape rolling or was that planned?
[01:40.98] Like, "Hey, we're just gonna riff at the end of this song"
[01:42.72] Well, you know when the song ends it goes into that double time section at the end
[01:46.43] Which is such as staple of that time or period
[01:49.58] And also was the guy talking over the outro
[01:53.39] And so like we decided that we were just kinda gonna go back and forth, and
[01:55.90] You know jab at each other a little bit, and it was just really, really fun
[01:59.31] Yeah, I loved your dad's line, "I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know"
[02:02.77] Exactly, I'm pretty sure he stole that from someone
[02:05.34] I'm sure he did, but he'll never tell you who
[02:07.76] Well, again it's called "Drink A Little Beer" it features Thomas's dad Rhett Akins
[02:11.63] And it is on Big Machine Radio
[02:13.85]
