Leave Right Now - Commentary Lyrics

[00:00.51] We're glad to have you listening to Big Machine Radio and
[00:02.86] I think you're gonna be glad you're here because
[00:04.48] We're talking to Thomas Rhett all about his new album, Life Changes
[00:08.01] We're also playing all the songs off the album
[00:10.79] And, the next song I wanna talk about is, uh, Leave Right Now (mm-hm)
[00:14.45] Very Chainsmoker-sque and I say that (yeah)
[00:16.42] Having just seen The Chainsmokers live (yeah) in concerts
[00:18.63] Which I've never done (yeah), and it was mind boggling (yeah)
[00:21.12] And and so, I wonder with a song like that, uhm
[00:23.68] Did it start with a track and then (no)
[00:26.19] Lead you to the idea, or how did that song originate?
[00:28.70] It actually started very acoustic
[00:31.30] (Really?) uhm, so like you know if you listen the verse first in the chorus
[00:33.83] It's you know, it's really nothing but an acoustic guitar
[00:35.94] And uh a little bit of synth but
[00:37.79] We wrote the song without the drop first and it
[00:39.86] (Wow) Really just, uhm, at the end of the chorus
[00:42.05] It just kinda went to another verse and that was the song
[00:44.20] But as the night went on
[00:45.90] And as we, were just hangin' out
[00:47.63] And like just experimentin' with the song
[00:50.09] Uh, I remember Julian, just like after one of the choruses
[00:52.45] Just started doing this like half-time thing
[00:54.22] And uhm, I was like, "Man, I want a song that has
[00:56.81] Just like the most "Throwyour hands up" drop
[00:59.13] Ever and in an unexpected way" (yeah)
[01:01.09] Because when you hear the verse first of the song
[01:02.47] You don't think that the song is gonna have that
[01:04.66] And when it comes out of nowhere, you just can't help
[01:06.65] But just like, node your head to it
[01:08.11] And it's just one those things that I've been on The Chainsmokers concerts too
[01:11.16] And it's, you live for that moment in their concerts (yeah, and it blows your mind)
[01:14.00] And that's when everybody gets ballistic (yeah)
[01:15.68] And, I just really wanted to have one of those on the record
[01:17.97] And definitely to-to play it in a live show
[01:20.08] Well, I will say, I was shocked
[01:21.14] Because, I mean, you know the popular thing in town right now
[01:23.69] Even for more traditional artists is writing the tracks
[01:26.32] Which for people who don't know
[01:27.45] They're-they're kind of pre-produced instrumentals
[01:29.97] And then you lay the lyrics (mm-hm) over them
[01:31.81] And-and you sorta create this danceable (yeah) sound
[01:34.25] And-and so when I heard this, I was like,"Oh
[01:36.16] Automatically, somebody brought him a track and they wrote"
[01:38.24] So to know that you started (yeah) with an acoustic guitar is pretty cool (yeah)
[01:41.39] That's amazing
[01:41.75] Yeah, I think you have more control over a song
[01:43.69] I mean, I've definitely written to a ton of tracks in my life (sure, yeah)
[01:45.93] But I think you have more control over a song when you do get to write it from scratch
[01:48.94] Because, sometimes when you listen to a track
[01:51.89] You kinda feel like you're forced to go with the melody that was already created (mm-hm)
[01:54.75] But when you go, start from scratch you can really go anywhere, uh, from where you started
[01:58.03] Well, it's a-, I love it
[01:59.13] It's a fantastic song (thank you)
[02:00.18] It called Leave Right Now from Thomas Rhett
[02:02.35] And it's on Big Machine Radio
[02:04.56]
