[00:06.40] And track 12 on here is called Renegades and to me
[00:09.67] This is just kinda the quintessential, good girl falls for the bad boys, song (totally, yeah)
[00:13.85] Uh, so tell me about the inspiration
[00:16.22] I-I don't know that it's necessarily your story (mm-hm) so where did this come from?
[00:20.00] This is uh, one of the few songs that I wrote out in Malibu with a bunch of L.A. writers
[00:24.75] Who, when you get into a room like that
[00:26.71] You never know if you're going to write something for Wiz Khalifa
[00:29.07] Or you're gonna write a traditional country song
[00:30.81] You just never know what you're gonna write (right)
[00:32.76] And we were in there and my buddy John Ryan
[00:35.28] Uh, who's a fantastic songwriter was just playing these, like, big loud power chord
[00:40.29] Like, Tom Petty chords, if you will
[00:42.17] And we just started, like, you know
[00:44.10] Singing that like super singalong choruses in the song and
[00:47.23] The line that I love the most is uhm, "Small town cliche bit like you and me"
[00:51.41] And so like you're telling the story of these two young lovers who
[00:55.11] The dad hates the guy; cliche story, but really you're talking about yourselves
[01:00.28] Uh, you're older now, but you get to look at your kids and be like
[01:03.00] "I really don't want you to go, but you should go" uh, kinda thing (yeah)
[01:05.85] In an age of love that just like kinda renegade, reckless, wild being young love story
[01:11.55] Uh. that-that, just feels like a stadium rock song if you will
